Application of Titan-Shield Wear-Resistant Ceramic Technology in Flue Gas Recirculation Fans

2025-12-24

In the power generation system, flue gas recirculation fans are indispensable core equipment for ensuring efficient unit operation and compliance with environmental emission standards. However, the fan impellers operate long-term under harsh conditions of high temperature, heavy dust, and intense scouring, leading to frequent wear issues that severely shorten equipment service life and significantly increase operation and maintenance costs—a common industry pain point. To address this challenge, Beijing Titan-Shield Technology, with deep expertise in the industrial wear-resistant field, has successfully applied its independently developed wear-resistant ceramic technology to flue gas recirculation fans. With wear-resistant ceramics as the core medium, it forms an efficient anti-wear solution. Its application in the flue gas recirculation fans of China Energy Investment Group has delivered a practice report with remarkable results.

The reason why Titan-Shield wear-resistant ceramic technology can precisely solve the wear problems of flue gas recirculation fans lies in its excellent material properties and mature process system. The alumina ceramic used in the technology achieves a Mohs hardness of 9, far exceeding that of traditional metal materials, effectively resisting high-velocity scouring and cutting by hard dust particles in the flue gas, fundamentally preventing wear escalation. At the same time, it offers outstanding high-temperature resistance (above 400°C) and corrosion resistance, perfectly adapting to the complex operating conditions of power plant flue gas recirculation fans. Compared with traditional wear-resistant processes such as thermal spraying and hardfacing, Titan-Shield's proprietary ceramic composite manufacturing process achieves stronger bonding between the wear-resistant ceramic layer and the fan impeller substrate, effectively eliminating risks such as ceramic layer detachment and cracking during operation, significantly improving the wear life and operational reliability of the fan impellers.

Practice is the best criterion for testing the value of technology. In 2023, Titan-Shield Technology successfully won the bid for the flue gas recirculation fan impeller project of China Energy Investment Group with its wear-resistant ceramic technology application solution. During project implementation, the technical team tailored a customized wear-resistant ceramic protection plan based on the specific operating characteristics of the unit's fans. A full-process quality control system was established from raw material selection, ceramic layer forming, to finished product inspection, ensuring the technical application results met the standards. After commissioning, continuous monitoring by the power plant's operation and maintenance department showed that as of December 24, 2025, the impeller equipped with Titan-Shield wear-resistant ceramic technology had been operating stably for over 800 days. Fan vibration remained within normal range throughout, with no visible wear marks on the impeller surface, fully verifying the stability and effectiveness of this technology in flue gas recirculation fan applications.

The successful application of Titan-Shield wear-resistant ceramic technology in flue gas recirculation fans has brought tangible economic and operational value to the owner. On the one hand, it has extended the replacement cycle of traditional fan impellers from 1–2 years to over 3 years, significantly reducing spare parts procurement costs. On the other hand, it has reduced the frequency of shutdown maintenance caused by impeller wear, ensuring continuous and stable power generation and indirectly improving the plant's operational efficiency. This project has also become a classic application case of Titan-Shield wear-resistant ceramic technology in the field of flue gas recirculation fans. Its maturity and applicability have been highly recognized by the owner, laying a solid foundation for the widespread promotion of the technology.

Building on its outstanding performance in flue gas recirculation fan applications, Titan-Shield wear-resistant ceramic technology has now formed replicable and customizable solutions. It is currently applicable to flue gas recirculation fans of various power ratings, with service coverage spanning multiple industries where fan wear is a pain point, including coal-fired power plants, waste-to-energy plants, metallurgy, and chemicals. Looking ahead, Beijing Titan-Shield Technology will continue to uphold its mission of "solving industry pain points and helping enterprises reduce costs and improve efficiency," deepening R&D and application innovation in wear-resistant ceramic technology. It will provide reliable protection for flue gas recirculation fans and similar wear-resistant equipment across more industries, contributing to green and efficient development in the industrial sector.
