Special Ceramic Welding Retrofit for Coal Mill Shell – Huasu Power Plant

[Project Overview]

The medium-speed coal mill shell at this plant had long been subjected to impact and scouring by coal gangue and pulverized coal, resulting in steel plate wear and perforation. Conventional hardfacing protection failed within only six months, and coal dust leakage posed a risk of spontaneous combustion. This project specifically implemented shell substrate repair combined with ceramic welding wear protection. The complete process included cutting and patching of worn areas on the shell, multi-stage grinding and rust removal of the inner wall, application of 10mm thick high-alumina ceramic tiles, and spot welding reinforcement through ceramic预留孔.

[Construction Site Work]

Titan-Shield Technology's professional construction technicians inspected the interior of the coal mill and marked damaged areas. New steel plates were fully welded for repair, followed by fine grinding and leveling. Full-area mechanical rust removal combined with alcohol degreasing ensured the bonding surface met requirements. High-temperature ceramic adhesive was mixed according to the specified ratio, ceramic tiles were arranged in order and firmly tamped, with strict control of the gap between tiles at 0.4–0.6mm. Reinforcement was provided by spot welding through the ceramic reserved holes, and the weld holes were sealed with wear-resistant adhesive. Construction was carried out under confined space and hot work permit controls. After full curing of the adhesive, a seal oil leakage test was conducted. Upon completion, the ceramic layer showed no cracking or detachment, and the risk of coal dust leakage was completely eliminated.
